EA’s decision to overhaul the passing and first-touch mechanics in FIFA 16 is proving contentious in certain quarters, with passing purists, long-ball merchants and sweaty pace abusers alike bemoaning the current state of play. Truth is, ball distribution in FIFA 16 isn’t the train wreck that some people would have you believe. There are, granted, occasional passes that feel entirely arbitrary and at odds with what you asked for, not to mention glitches, idiosyncrasies and game balance issues that we’d like to see addressed.
Take the time to really come to terms with the general pace and focus of this new edition, though, and you’ll find that every FIFA player archetype has the tools to play their favored style of game - and enjoy it. The franchise has, in recent times, done a wonderful job of taking the way players move with the ball (the rapid, short steps of Lionel Messi, the swaggering hips of Eden Hazard) and dropping that likeness into the game.
This year, however, there is a strange uniform to a lot of the players. Yes, the likenesses, thanks to the additional facial scanning, are stunning - and visually Fifa remains unrivaled - but there are issues elsewhere. FIFA 16 Ultimate Team, running and Administrator mode, online professional clubs, challenges and features of the week, all of the equipment for longer. There is a new guide for the brand FIFA to help coach beginners learn the ropes, but is also for experienced players who take their skills to the next level.
The artificial intelligence in FIFA 16 defends very well, so it’s natural that some players will find it hard to maintain possession of the ball. If that’s case for you, the first thing you should do is release the sprint button. There is often a tendency to run with the ball, but this can be a big mistake. Try to pass the ball frequently, wait for the other players to occupy the empty spaces and don’t risk too much. This will allow you to keep the ball for a longer period of time, and will eventually open up attacking possibilities.
FUT Draft is FIFA 16’s standout new mode, and although it comes with a high entry fee (15,000 Coins or 300 FUT Points), your prize is always good, coming in the form of packs. The more matches you win in FUT Draft, the bigger the payout. Playing an online FUT Draft bears greater rewards than offline, so it’s always worth a punt taking on human opponents and seeing how far you can progress.
Small personal experience is the X key to closing down and not always according to a R1 rush around, I usually let the computer with their live defense, then quickly switch to manual movement near the player with the ball players close to each other, this one's own defensive player AI is good, I will stay at the main players control the ball pass, sometimes L2 mobile card, when computer with other players and I compressed the space waiting for the right time to intercept or block tackle, sometimes do not even need a button, automatically blocking the ball, rob will have a hard time straight R1, the starting time should pay attention to, sometimes rival wings you break, the timing is not good according to the R1, but will make the computer rapid distance breakthrough
As you would expect, there is a ton of new shooting animations to make each shot feel unique, there is also a new crossing system that will change where the ball is played and how those trying to get on the end of it react to the moving ball. Perhaps most importantly though, EA’s added new in-game physics built around how the ball is struck and its trajectory thereafter. Hit the ball with the outside of your foot and it will behave totally differently to using the inside or laces, and after some refinement this finally seems to be the case in FIFA, meaning the goals are only going to get better.
