Last year, when EA tried to sell FIFA 15, a lot of the PR talk was about how the game had to look realistic. This included the player's emotions on the field, and that they should reflect the importance of the match - if you scored in the last minute the team would be extra happy, more so than if you just scored in a training match. It was a nice addition, but for a game that contains gameplay imbalance, it felt like a weird priority. Therefore the joy - and relief - was huge, when they started their presentation with a focus on gameplay, and not aesthetic changes. Soccer fans want to believe their sport is the most creative game in the world. Having a moniker like the “beautiful game” sort of touches on that point, but what’s hard about living up to that ideal is that it flies in the face of video games and how people play them much of the time.
I did not talk about shooting very much because goalies are always a little wonky in these early builds. But I would say shooting from distance feels like it will be more important with chances in the box being a bit harder to come by so far. The changes they’ve made to the shooting physics in FIFA 16 do seem notable, but from a critical perspective I just don’t feel comfortable saying much more at this point. The same goes for slide tackles, which I know the development team put a lot of work into this cycle. Be that as it may, I simply did not toy around with them enough to give much of an opinion at this point.
Players get to choose a captain and a formation before being given a choice of five players for any given position. Once a player is chosen, they’re locked in and you have to make the best of what you are given. Ultimate Team veterans will likely enjoy the challenge of squad building on the fly, choosing whether to pick higher rated players or those who will improve chemistry, and making subtle changes to improve chemistry. Although FIFA 16 apparently will present us many new things, nothing will be enough to compensate the imperfections the game has and will continue to have. And just so you can't say you weren't warned, I'll break it to you. The servers are not going to be improved so you'll keep having a hard time finding opponents, you'll feel the lag during games and you'll suffer frequent disconnections which will even affect your DNF.
If you're good enough, you'll win tournaments but sometimes you won't get the prize. At some point in game you'll have several cards stuck on the market. You may mysteriously see your FIFA Points vanish, coins or, even worse, be accused of buying them while you wouldn't even know how to do so. Even if they implement the take-off-shirt celebration, which in FIFA 16 would be particularly interesting (okay, you can start calling me names now), you'll still be in despair while stumbling across the game's weak spots. Other improvements deal with interceptions and passing. FIFA 16 will feature "passing with purpose," which allows players to ping a ball fast enough to bypass nearby opponents. Even the dribbling received some new moves. The game will introduce "no touch" dribbling, which is essentially a means of faking opponents with a light tap, skip and a sudden attack in a different direction.
Naturally, you can shift your roster around for the best chemistry. The further your progress in the tourney, the better the coins or points rewards, but even if you bomb out in the first game you'll at least get back what you've initially invested. There is also something called a draft token you can win, but were not sure what it is exactly. It's unknown if consumables, can be used in FUT Draft. I also don't know about the role, if any, of managers in FUT Draft. Engaging in a situation to really mix the basketball wasn’t as simple because it was this past year when enjoying whilst the loves of Messi and Ronaldo, but so just how do the group choose what requires changing to create something which experienced overpowered in 15, experience healthy in Fifa 16?
The contracts system, then, is the real downer on this game. I would understand if it was more of a pure energy system, and getting replacements for bronze-level players is cheap and easy enough. But it's the specter that haunts everything you do in this game, that even your lower-tier squads are a ticking time bomb that you must constantly manage. And when you get that Ultimate Team, you can't really enjoy it for too long. I suppose that's true of sports in real life, sure. But does the contracts system make the game more fun? I can definitely say that it does not.
