The new and biggest feature of the FIFA 16 Ultimate Team Mode is the FUT Draft, which is a mode that allows gamers to create a team with random golden players. The drafted team can then be used to play in a specific tournament where the gamer can earn great rewards. As in the case of real football draft, the challenge with FUT Draft is to create a quality football squad without breaking the team’s chemistry. However, in order for gamers to be able to participate in the FUT Draft, they have to spend 15,000 gold coins or a couple of quids, which would come off as their investment to the game. All the other cards boost at least speed or kicking, attributes of less importance to us. That’s why we think that the ‘Basic’ card could be a good choice many times.
FIFA Ultimate Team - known better by season regulars as FUT, EA's financially draining homage to the Panini sticker album - is back with FIFA 16. And this year's card-collecting, team-building online mode is sporting some killer new features. Once you spend your 15,000 coins by entering FUT Draft, you can expect to be compensated in different ways. You won’t get 15,000 coins back if you lose your matches, but you should get cards, packs and some coins back for your successes. Best FIFA players: Highest ratings across the pitch from goalkeepers to free kick takers. To choose a chemistry style according to the players’ attributes is something very personal. It depends of who is choosing. We are pretty sure that, even after all the explanations, there are many people that still need help to choose the right chemistry style to their players. If it is your case, don’t worry. We will help you.
For reference, I'm using a machine with the following STATS: i3-2100 / 8GB / 2GB 7870. In FIFA 16 terms, that's a minimum spec processor (yikes, that i3 really is getting old) and a GPU that's comfortably fine. I'm using the 15.8 Catalyst beta drivers. I nudged the MSAA down to 2x instead of 4x, because it seemed like I was dipping under 60fps in certain scenes at 1080p (penalty shoot-outs, oddly) with the latter. Elsewhere, FIFA 16 does see two very good additions, one of which presents a crucial moment in the history of sports games. Women’s football has been covered for the first time, rounding off what has been a breakthrough year for the female version of the world’s favourite sport.
Cynics would say this inclusion is purely a move for those US dollars, capturing the sizable female soccer audience within the States. However the decision was reached by EA, it’s an important step. FIFA 16 differs a little from the standard men’s matches and ultimately offers a greater level of enjoyment. Predictably, the ladies game is less reliant on pace and power, with a more technical emphasis. Because of that, weaving attacking moves is much more fun. FUT Draft is a new feature within the Ultimate Team side of things. Aside from the cost to enter both online or offline incarnations, it’s a great way to be able to use a real top drawer group of players. It lets you pick from a selection of players for each position, sometimes including TOTW stars and Legends, with the sole aim being to create a team that has maximum chemistry. You’ll then play up to four matches until you lose and depending how far you progressed, there will be a decent prize paid out at the end such as Gold packs!
Something I mentioned with PES 2016 that seems to have garnered some criticism was the licensing of teams in certain leagues. It appears that EA Sports made sure to line the right pockets (like they usually do) because they have the franchises that are not included in PES 2016. Not only that, but they also have the international women's teams for the first time. I really enjoyed playing some matches with the women. The games felt like they were kicked up a notch. The women are a lot faster than their male counterparts and the match-ups felt a lot more offensive and scoring heavy. Ultimate Team has been tweaked and updated and continues its dominance having replaced Pro Evo’s Master League (more on PES’ latest effort soon) as the feature everyone seems to love.
I really enjoyed the fresh feel of blowing away my opponent with the all-conquering German side and it felt like a refreshing change.
