Chemistry is the overriding principle in FIFA 16

In FIFA Ultimate Team Draft, fans can compete in single player or online in a single knockout string of four games to achieve rewards – the more games won, the better the reward to utilize in your FUT Club. Once fans enter a Draft using virtual coins, FIFA Points, or a Draft Token, they will choose from one of five formations, then a captain, and then go on to fill out the rest of their 23-man squad by selecting a player from a choice of five in each position. Fans will be tested as they choose between picking the best players and creating a team with the right chemistry before they enter their games. See FUT Draft in action as two of England’s top football pundits, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville play the all new mode.

To get more bang for your buck, FUT Draft is a great way to get a bunch of packs and players and also save on wasting your squad's contracts, too. By paying 15,000 FIFA 16 coins, which won't take too long to earn once you get going, you can play in the dream team tournament and earn potentially huge rewards should you progress far enough. The mode is also great fun to boot. Check out Video Gamer’s guide for some beginner's tips on FUT Draft. As always in FIFA Ultimate Team, chemistry is the overriding principle you must pay attention to when picking players. While there may be higher-rated options available in a selection of centre backs, choosing the lesser player that can help achieve full chemistry is the way to go. Having 11 galacticos with red lines connecting them all is a far worse strategy than having a team of great players who also play well together.

A staple of offline simulation fans, Career Mode returns with a few marquee additions and some much needed refinement. The first thing you will notice when starting a Career Mode is the presence of Pre-Season Tournaments. These tournaments have become all the rage for top clubs around Europe as a way to grow their brand globally and are represented fairly-well. In FIFA 16, you will have three options to choose from, with the tournament proceeds varying based upon the level of competition. If you choose the likes of Stoke City as your club you don’t have to worry about initially being paired up with Real Madrid or Barcelona. For a first iteration, these tournaments are surprisingly well thought-out as clubs will play a mixture of youngsters and first-team regulars, much as they would in real-life. Some international players might also be unavailable as they participate in summer tournaments for their country.

So, 650 words in, I’m about to mention carrying the ball. Yes, FIFA 16 really is that different defensively. It’s the best kind of different - more authentic, more interesting, and most importantly, more fun. Defending has become an engaging and noteworthy game phase, rather than the bit between attacking runs. And now, onto the glamorous part of the game: attacking. The midfield matters. Defensive overhauls now force more deliberate and thoughtful build up play, resulting in incredibly satisfying through balls and offensive runs. Scoring goals feels much more rewarding this year, because doing so is infinitely less gimmicky. Silly plays have no place here, but legitimate soccer strategy pays dividends realistically. Online mode dominates the bulk of FIFA play, which is no surprise, and Ultimate Team is still the mode that reigns supreme. When information started to leak out about a new addition to FUT, it was hard to imagine any major changes were necessary.

Funny enough, the main FUT mode hasn't really been touched. FUT Draft, however, is a brilliant addition to a game mode that already gets the bulk of attention. The mode will cost a player 15,000 in-game coins, 300 FIFA points, or 1 draft token that can be found inside of FIFA packs. Instead of piecing together a squad from packs that are purchased, a player will go position by position and attempt to build the best possible team based upon the same criteria that makes a squad strong in standard FUT mode. The trick to this, though, is that each position is completely random. Taking a higher ranking player at CB may mean getting a weaker CM or ST, so one must choose wisely, especially since there are only five players in each position.

The mode is extremely fun, though, as it allows a player to get a taste of having a top level squad even if their regular squad isn't great. The difference, however, is that the drafted team is stuck to one game mode where four wins gets the absolute best reward. The opening match starts off easy, but working off a progression system means that the final match could be against a European giant such as Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. The further the team goes, the better the rewards.
